(1) Informative paper. The informative approach is the simplest form of research papers. It merely asks the writer to gather the necessary information about a particular subject, and then, to compose the paper in the most coherent way possible. Benefits: Informative research papers work to train writers on the traits of preciseness and clear writing. Preciseness enters the picture in the meticulous gathering of data, while clear writing comes in during the narrating process of the paper. It should be noted, however, that these traits can very well be acquired in the other research paper types. (2) Analytical. The second research paper type pertains to the analytical paper. In this approach, the writer plunges into the researching stage with only a specific subject in tow. It is essential that this selected topic points to something that the writer has not made any form of preconceived notions or conclusions. This is precisely because the gist of of the analytical research is to make the writer go through the research procedure first in order to come up with a critical evaluation and personal position. To further differentiate this type from its counterparts, the specific topic is usually called the research paper's research question. This reiterates the point above that the analytical research paper is triggered by a hanging question, becomes guided by that niggling question in seeking insightful sources, and ends with the writer's personal assessment of that question relative to all the gathered information. Benefits: Analytical research papers work to train writers on the values of impartiality and critical thinking. As there is no room for prejudgments in this material, writers are then honed to have an open mind as to what they will discover in the research process. Critical thinking comes to light in processing all the incoming data, as well as in perceptively merging all significant points into one vision and conclusion. (3) Argumentative. This third type of writing research papers is in direct contrast to the analytical approach. Whereas the analytical paper undergoes extensive research in order to arrive at a conclusion, the argumentative research paper employs extensive research to support the writer's stand and beliefs on a particular topic. Indeed, the writer already has a personal position and argument on the selected topic. All the research that will be implemented exists for the objective of backing up the writer's claims. This then supports the two primary objectives of the argumentative research paper: (1) to provide the reasoning why the writer stands firm on this particular position, and (2) to influence the readers toward the point of view of the writer. Benefits: Argumentative research papers work to train writers on the traits of rational evaluating and compelling writing. With all the varying information coming in, the writer needs to be sharp enough to incorporate only the relevant data that will strengthen the standing argument. Argumentative papers also demands for influential writing, specifically, authoring a paper that will compel readers, at the very least, to consider the presented points and evidences of the research paper. With all these great benefits considered, writers are then encouraged to experience all three types. In this way, all the personal improvements can be absorbed by the writers; from efficient writing styles to values of meticulous researching and critical thinking, among others. |
